Michael talks about the Labour Leadership contest
   Transcript

This is the atrium of Portcullis House, the bit of the Houses of Parliament where my office is situated. It’s up there on the fifth floor. This is where people come to have coffee and have their lunch and, as you can see it’s usually buzzing, but it’s been buzzing a bit more than usual recently because it’s the start of the Labour leadership contest. We now know that Gordon Brown is going to be the next leader. I’m delighted by that, the whole parliamentary party is united behind him and that’s very good news, which means that we can now get on with doing our jobs, which is serving the people of this country.  The deputy leadership contest is much more wide open and there are six contenders for it, all pretty even matched in terms of support there getting from parliamentary colleagues.  I’ll be supporting Harriet Harman. It’s clearly going to be a real democratic contest over the next few weeks to see who is going to be deputy leader of the party, and I’ll keep you posted.
