It’s Thursday afternoon, the end of another busy week at Westminster. It’s been a very varied week this week. I’ve been on two committees for statutory instruments, one on Northern Island and one on VAT. This is part of the unseen business of legislation in the House of Commons, dealing with a lot of constituents cases including a very long running discussion with George Wimpey, the developers, which I think is finally coming to a resolution for residents in Oakhurst. There’s been a lot of politics this week as usual, as the Labour deputy leadership campaign heads toward a conclusion now. Very, very hard to read who’s going to win, all the candidates are doing well. A lot will, I think, depend on the rather complicated electoral system, the second, third, fourth, fifth preferences, so it remains to be seen what’s going to happen. And then I’m off to Swindon for tomorrow visiting constituents, actually in Didcot, who work in Didcot, and then a busy day visiting schools and unveiling a plaque on the A419 for the noise barriers, that I campaigned so long and hard to get up, are now finally up, the first stretch of them. So that will be very exciting. Then a meeting in the evening. So, a long, long, long day tomorrow and the end of a busy week. |
