A419 Noise Barriers at Covingham and Kingsdown
As many constituents know, I have campaigned for many years for noise barriers to be built along the A419 at Swindon, as the noise from the road has become unbearable for many residents. The Highways Agency has undertaken exploratory work over the last few years and got the necessary agreements from English Heritage and other landowners. Following my discussions with the Secretary of State for Transport earlier in the year funding was finally agreed for the final stage of building the barriers.
I am delighted that the Highways Agency has recently confirmed that it will be building barriers at both Covingham and Upper Stratton (Kingsdown) in this financial year. Before the barriers are actually built there is preparatory ground clearance and exploratory work to be done and the Highways Agency have just sent out letters to local residents explaining the nature of the work they will be undertaking and the location, which include maps. The letter and maps can be viewed by clicking the icon below.
